Balir Sheppard will play his 250th Senior game this weekend against Narre Warren.
Shep was a member of our last Senior premiership in 2011, one of only a handful still playing today. He also played in a Reserves flag in 2009 as well as an Under 18’s flag in 2006.
He was awarded life membership in 2018 after clocking up 200 games with the senior club, before hanging up the boots the year after.
Not lost to footy following his retirement, Shep has been with our Women’s footy team for the past few years, as a runner in their Premiership year in 2022, and currently as an Assistant Coach.
Shep’s hunger to play never dwindled and last year he saw the Reserves as an opportunity to pull the boots back on to help our young developing forwards. His elevation to the Ressies leadership group for this season is recognition for the impact he’s had on the young group since his return.
The results are clear to see - our forward line is looking the most dangerous it has in recent times, with Shep leading the comp goal kicking to boot! If our Ressies are to go one step further in 2024, Shep’s footy and leadership will be a huge factor.
All the best for the weekend Shep! A huge top-of-the-table clash with Narre Warren is a fitting way to celebrate the milestone .. hopefully with a W and few “Box Heads”.
