The Club is thrilled to advise that Ben “Blazer” Hinton plays game number 200 this weekend when he takes the field at home against Woori Yallock in the Reserves. In doing so, he is also awarded Life Membership, making him the 85th recipient in our history.
For a while, it seemed a distinct possibility this day may never arrive for Blazer. A horrific knee injury last season looked set to maroon him on 199 games, such was the extent of the damage. A meticulous recovery program, led by our wonderful head trainer Bec and her team, coupled with the drive to get back on the park with his mates, has seen Blazer return ahead of schedule. It’s a great lesson to his young clubmates coming through the ranks on what can be achieved if you’re diligent with your rehab.
A member of our last Senior premiership side in 2011, Blazer’s versatility has been a hallmark of his career. He earned Team of the Year honours in 2014 as a half-back flanker, has seen plenty of quality midfield minutes over the journey, and enjoyed a knack for goals after spending some time in the forward half in his most recent seasons.
The way Blazer goes about his footy has long been admired by teammates and Tiger supporters alike at Chosen Avenue. A true heart-on-his-sleeve character, Blazer has never been afraid to stick up for a teammate should the need arise, nor has he been one to shy away from solid feedback to teammates when required for the betterment of the team. His passion for the yellow & black jumper has been clear for all to see in moments like this!
Equally impressive is Blazer’s longevity and durability. With 150 games at the Junior Club, 50 at Under 18 level, and a few more abroad, on top of his 200 for us - his total career tally would be around the 450 mark - and it probably would be 500 if not for a few injuries and unsuccessful trips to the tribunal!
Please join us in congratulating Ben on this magnificent achievement!
